
Coraline is a horror novella written by British author Neil Gaiman. The book was published in 2002 and has won numerous awards such as: Hugo Award for Best Novella (2003), Nebula Award for Best Novella (2003), and Bram Stoker Award for Best Work for Young Readers (2002). The novella Coraline, is about a young girl who finds a passageway behind her family’s apartment and sees a duplicate of her parents. The only difference between her real parents and these duplicates is that the duplicates have buttons as eyes. The duplicate parents greet Coraline with kindness and generousity, catering to her throughout the day. After spending the day with them, Coraline’s duplicate mother asks if she would like to stay with them, if so, all she would have to do is replace her eyes with buttons. But Coraline decides to return home to her real parents. In returning home, Coraline discovers her parents have been kidnapped by her duplicate home. To save her parents, Coraline must perform a variety of tasks which include help from the souls of 3 children, a black cat, and a special stone.
