In honor of the WORLD CUP, ESPN focused their sports documentary series on one of the most controversial countries that once had the best soccer team..COLUMBIA!
“The Two Escobars” focuses on a the drug lord Pablo Escobar and world- renowned Colombian soccer player Andres Escobar. The setting is the 1994 World Cup, with its’ attention turned to the National Colombian Team. Prior to their appearance to the World Cup they were the top favorites, as they came into the tournament ranked #4 in the world and trained by the worlds’ best trainers. But the opening game would soon become a curse to the Colombian National Team, as they would not advance out of their opening bracket. Then return home t0 face the murder of a teammate and watch as their lives were slowly stripped away as bodyguards and the eye of the world carefully lingered over them.
This documentary depicts the harsh reality of when sports and drug sponsorship become more than a credit advancement.
