Marvin D.Sterling, the assistant Professor of Anthology at Indiana University has produced and archived the journey of one countries youth looking towards another countries’ belief to pursue a journey of self-exploration. In Sterlings’ book Babylon East, he explores, documents, and gracefully writes about the rise of Japanese youth interest in the Jamaican culture (often converting to Rastafarian-ism). Babylon East covers Reggae, Dancehall, the first Japanese Dancehall Queen, Japan’s sudden embrace of the Jamaican culture, and the rise of Afro-Asian cultural exchange. This book is a wonderful read for those who are curious about Jamaica’s musical influence and country’s willingness to share and Japan’s youth openness to new culture.
